In order to sum up the weekend, and also as a way of using the talks and films as the start of a process, I am interested in speaking to people/ or being sent text or images in response to the films. Either a few notes on the films you saw or in response to one of the 3 subject headings described below, which I have extracted from the programme as possible themes. Your responses will be put online and I would also like to use them in the Museum of the Moment Archive… I would also be keen to take this further, perhaps as a series of discussion groups?… let me know if you would like to take part in that and I will set something up… maybe meeting in a cafe one evening?
Subjects:
Architecture: The building of places/ architecture in relation to human narrative/ town planning etc… eg. 12 Views of Kensal House (Peter Wyeth)/ My Architect (Nathaniel Kahn)/ The Mirroring Cure (Charlotte Ginsborg)/ Chain (Jem Cohen)/ Mon Oncle (Jaques Tati).
Social/ Environmental: What is the impact of corporatisation/ mass consumption/ global capitalism? Socially and environmentally. What are the issues conected to it? eg. The Land Behind (Mayling To)/ The Globalisation Tapes (Vision Machine)/ Bit Plane (Bureau of Inverse Technology)/ Sans Solieil (Chris Marker)
Documentary/ Document: Focusing more on tradional documentary issues, how do you document or represent place… must there be the ‘directorial narrative’ leading the viewer or can, as William discussed, the impetus be placed on the viewer to make sense of images and draw from that… this was also raised in “Chronicle of a Summer’ (Jean Rouch/ Edgar Morin)/ Rosalind Nashashashibi/ The Slow Glass (John Smith) etc.
